Why Should I Compete?

London Australs is a new debating tournament with a difference.

It's different because it will introduce a new style of debating to the European circuit, featuring two, three-member teams. The new style is called "Austral-Asian" because it is dominant amongst Australian, Asian and New Zealand universities. (It is also very similar to the format used at World Schools' Debating Championships.)

To be held on 27-28 March 2010, London Australs offers European and North American debaters:

  • => the challenge and fun of tackling something new;
  • => the opportunity to grow as a debater - by mastering a new style, you will become more versatile, flexible and sophisticated; and
  • => a way to increase your debating repertoire, so as to increase understanding and contact with another regional debating circuit.

London Australs can also offer:
  • => the extremely low registration fee of £20 pounds per person;
  • => a deep, strong adjudication team that is eminently successful at the format, including three flying in from Australia;
  • => Austral-Asian themed food nights; and
  • => plenty of special extra little tidbits such as a generous cash prize for the winners and a trophy made entirely out of Belgian Chocolate!

This is also an open competition, which means you can get together with your arch-rivals from different universities/countries/old coaches to compete together for a change if you so wish.

You won't want to miss out on this fantastic debating experience!
